While I had another group in mind for this week, I can’t help but react to the recent earthquake in Chile. If you’re looking to pitch in on the Chile Disaster Relief efforts, there are tons of ways to donate, but text-message donations seem to be one of the most turnkey ways to give. No check or stamp necessary – and no excuses about not being able to find an envelope.

The Crystal and Fine China Debate

While I swore up and down when creating my wedding registry more than five years ago that I had no need or desire for crystal or fine china, I may have had a shortsighted view. Recently having broken the seventh of my 12 off-the-registry basic Pottery Barn wine glasses, I decided it was time to invest in some sturdier glassware.

Conveniently, Christmas was right around the corner, and I was thrilled to receive four Waterford red wine glasses. Large, heavy and thick cut crystal, I couldn’t wait to start guzzling my Valley Vineyards DeChaunac from my new pimp cup … I mean, wine glasses.

Mama says, “Don’t bother” with Mama Vita’s

My husband and I decided to take advantage of a restaurant.com gift certificate to Mama Vita’s (fine print = redemption for lunch only) and have a rare lunch together during the workweek.   We arrived at noon, a time one would guess would be nearing the peak of a lunch rush, and the place was empty.  Not one diner. Not one worker.  We wondered if it was even open, as we waited a good three or four minutes before someone noticed we were there.
