While I swore up and down when creating my wedding registry more than five years ago that I had no need or desire for crystal or fine china, I may have had a shortsighted view. Recently having broken the seventh of my 12 off-the-registry basic Pottery Barn wine glasses, I decided it was time to invest in some sturdier glassware.

Conveniently, Christmas was right around the corner, and I was thrilled to receive four Waterford red wine glasses. Large, heavy and thick cut crystal, I couldn’t wait to start guzzling my Valley Vineyards DeChaunac from my new pimp cup … I mean, wine glasses. Read the rest of this entry »

My husband and I decided to take advantage of a restaurant.com gift certificate to Mama Vita’s (fine print = redemption for lunch only) and have a rare lunch together during the workweek.   We arrived at noon, a time one would guess would be nearing the peak of a lunch rush, and the place was empty.  Not one diner. One part of suburban living we weren’t totally prepared for (particularly in our neck of the woods – literally) is the abundance of wildlife.  In a matter of days, we spotted a white-tailed deer probably 30 yards from us on a walk with the dogs, dead baby bird fetuses which had fallen out of a nest in our front yard :(   and most recently, a rabbit hole complete with baby rabbits in our backyard flower bed.  It was the dogs who found it first, Read the rest of this entry »
